Earlier this week, Monday, 1/23/11  we looked at Romans chapter 2.  Paul is making a case why we need the Salvation that Y’shua (Jesus) brings.  He wrote that Gentiles, Moralists and Jews are all sinful and need to be forgiven.  In this chapter he made a case for general revelation……If there is a creation then there must be a creator.  This is an important point because it says that those who never heard the Gospel of Y’shua’s death and resurrection are  still  aware of the Creator.  The author of Hebrews said that God  rewards those who seek him, without faith it is impossible to please God.  Where do you place your faith?.  That is not saying that people can come to God the creator any way they want (there is no other name under heaven…)  But, it is saying that people who are truly looking for a relationship with the Creator will find what they are looking for.  Next we will look at Romans Chapter 3.  In this Chapter who are the Jewish prophets that he quotes and what did they write?  Clue see 3:10-18

Today we covered Romans 1:1-15 and touched on Romans 1:15&16.

Paul is the Author of the Epistle to the Romans.  Scholars put the date of his writing in the middle part of the first century.  Some said A.D. 55, others A.D. 56 and one said A.D. 57.  It is evident from this passage that he had not been to Rome at the time of this writing (v.13).  We wonderedt about how the people in Rome heard the Gospel as he is writing to those who are “the saints”.  My opinion was that according to Acts, many were in Jerusalem during the feast of Pentecost.  People heard the gospel in their own languages and returned to their homes.  Perhaps these believers told their family and friends what had happened in Jerusalem and the gospel spread.

Paul gives his reason for writing in this passage.  He says that he really wanted to come to Rome.  He prays for the saints there.

Scholars(Criswell,Scofield, Panning, Gould)  wrote that the theme of the letter is in verse 15.  I think the people who wrote that the theme of Romans is “the Saving Grace of God” are playing it safe…..isn’t that the theme on every page of scripture?  BTW if you want the list of the 6 books I am reading for this study just ask and I’ll include it.

The rabbit chase was a discussion about the word Apostle v.s. apostle.  Was Mattthias chosen of God or man?  Acts 1:15-26.  Luke wrote in verse 26 that he was numbered among the 11 apostles.  I said that I thought he was counted in (see verse 17 earlier Judas was counted in, wasn’t he?)
